BioSphere 2 was built in the 1980’s as a cutting edge earth science research facility to “demonstrate the viability of closed ecological systems to support and maintain human life in outer space.” After being bought by the University of Arizona, Biosphere 2 now primarily acts as a center for research and outreach.

My focus at BioSphere 2 was the Landscape Evolution Observatory (LEO), mankind’s largest earth science experiment ever conducted in a closed system. LEO’s purpose was to determine how water moved through a landscape and its effect on soil geomorphology.
